"Nothing is to be feared, as fear itself"
- Henry David Thoreau

a) I think that this quotation means that once you get passed what you find fearful, its not so scary."

b) I agree with this interpretation based upon my experience.

c) I agree wit this quote from my point of view because the more you understand your fear, sometimes the less scary it is. Though this is not true for all things or people, but in some situation it suffices. Most of the time people are afraid of what they don’t know. They are more afraid of fear itself and don’t pay enough attention to understanding what they are actually afraid of. If they know what it is, they have a better chance of moving past it. Such as being afraid of the dark, you are afraid of the dark because you don’t know what’s’ there. Though some people are afraid of the dark to this day, many have gotten over it once they realize nothings going to happen to them. It’s a natural reaction to be afraid of the unsure.

Quotes
"A true writer has nothing to say. What counts is the way he says it"
Alain Robbe-Grillet

a. I think that this quotation means that it’s not necessarily what the writer write about that makes the story, but it’s the way the story is written.

b. I agree with this interpretation based upon my experience.

c. I agree with this quotation because if the story is told in a bad matter than the story would be poor. A true writer can write about almost anything and say it in such a way that pleases a certain audience. If you have an amazing topic to write a story about, yet the way in which you write it is horrible than the story means nothing. Its value is worthless unless the quality in which it was written is good, and a true writer can grasp good writing skills. The writer must write so that people can comprehend what he is saying and have thoughts about it. A true writer can find the best way to write things, even if nothing needs to be written.

"When you think of a long gloomy history of man, you find more hideous crimes have been committed in the name of obedience than have ever been committed in the name of rebellion"
C.O. Snow

a. I think that this quotation means that more crimes have been done from people doing what other people tell us to do than from us not doing what others have told us.

b. I agree with this interpretation based upon my experience.

c. I agree with this quotation because I think that more people have done horrible things that others have told them to out of fear or lack of a backbone. So many people don't stand up for themselves and then others tell them what to do. Many crimes have been committed from leaders commanding others to do so, even if the people themselves did not feel it was right. Once fear enters a situation, many people just give in and do what they are told. For those that committed a crime in the name of rebellion have been punished a fate in which is the basis of the fear who haven't rebelled. They are afraid that if they rebel they will end up like those who rebelled alone and those who suffered a horrible end. Many people have joined together in the rage of anger, and let it take over their actions. They felt that it was what they were supposed to do, or have been told to do by some god or all knowing. Many have done such things for religion, thinking it was the way to their rapture.

"The world is too dangerous to live in-not because of the people who do evil but because of the people who sit and let it happen"
Albert Einstein

a. I think that this quotation means that even though people do evil, it’s just as bad to just and let it happen.

b. I agree with this interpretation based upon my experience.

c. I agree with this quotation because I think it is horrible to just sit and watch evil things happen without doing something about it. If everyone just let everything happen to one another the world would be out of control. Somewhere along the line there has to be someone that enforces some law, or puts rest to evil doings that occur. It’s bad enough that evil happens in this world, but by doing nothing about it is worse. The only way the evil will stop is if we do something to make it stop. Sometimes, if the evil realizes the consequences that would prevail then maybe the evil wouldn't be done. There are so many people out in this world that don't do enough to stop bad things from happening all around, and even though they may not be the ones to do the actually act they still didn't even bother to try and stop it.

"Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against an injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope."
Robert F. Kennedy

a. I think that this quotation means that every time someone stands up for a good change, it sends a message of hope that it might happen.

b. I agree with this interpretation based upon my experience.

c. I agree with this quotation because if someone states their ideas about doing something to improve the lives of others, people begin to feel as if it might happen, that there actually is hope. Suddenly, there is a feeling that something in their life will change for the better, and that there is actually someone out there that can make a difference. That ripple of hope is an important thing to give, however it can be dangerous in the long run if you’re not careful. If you say such good obligations on how you would like to improve things and standing up for your thoughts, yet you don't follow through people get angry and upset. They are mad because you let them on to believe something that didn't happen. They expected something from you, they felt hope towards what you were saying.

"History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived but if faced with courage, need not to be lived again"
Maya Angelou

a. I think that this quotation means that even though history has had some rough times, if we go into the future with determination we will not make the same mistakes we did then.

b. I agree with my interpretation based upon my experience.

c. I agree with this quote because I feel that if we just keep making the same mistakes that we will suffer just as badly as the people before us did. We must be determined to make wise choices, as to not live the same wrong doings again. It would only be a waste of time if we didn't learn from the errors that have already been made. They cannot be unlived, for it is a matter of the past. However we can make the best of them by catching on to the pattern before we do the same slip-ups again. In order to make our future better, we must learn from the past focus on today, and hope for tomorrow. There is no sense in holding on to the regrets from long ago. By focusing on today, we make the future ahead a better one for us.

"Married in haste, we may repent in leisure"
William Congreve

a. I think that this quotation means when we make important commitments in carelessly, that we usually only have time to regret them when we have our own time.

b. I agree with this quotation based upon my experience.

c. I agree with this quotation because it is very true that when we make decisions carelessly that it isn't until we have personal time that we being to regret them. Usually, when we make great commitments carelessly it is because we don't have the time to think them over, we think we can handle them or that we are ready for such things. Later, when we have our own time, slowly and carefully we inspect our choice and realize it wasn't the best things for us. It just shows how much people underestimate things and over estimate themselves. Just because it looks as if it might be a good idea doesn't mean that it is. There are certain choices in life that involve much contemplating and if not handled right, you might be mourning about it in the long run.

"Familiarity breeds contempt"
Aesop

a. I think that this quotation means that the more familiar we are with something the more likely we will find something wrong with it.

b. I agree with this quotation based upon my experience.

c. I agree with this quotation because the more time we have with something, the more time we have to look at its flaws. Sometimes, when you are friends with someone for a long amount of time you start to look at their faults and understand if they have reasoning behind them. In some cases, you cannot relate to their reasoning if they have any, and their faults become clearer and clearer. Or with a job for example. The longer you are at a certain workplace, the more you see its weak points and what it lacks.

"Do not go gentle into that good night/Old age should burn and rave at close of day/Rage, rage against the dying of the light"
Dylan Thomas

a. I think that this quotation means that you should use the time you have now, that you should fight against death

b. I agree with this interpretation based upon my experience

c. I agree with this quotation because I believe that every minute of our lives should be put to something important. Once you die, you wont be able to do such things, so why waste the time you have? If you ease into that 'good night' then some of your time wont be used with the enthusiasm of life that you still could have. Just because you know your going to die soon doesn't mean that you have to act like it. Do what you can and keep yourself motivated until you can't anymore. Don't just slow down and let the sun set on you, keep going and keep trying. Do what you can and what you want in the time you have left, before its too late.

"The best literature is about the old universal truths, such as love, pride, compassion, and sacrifice"
William Faulkner

a. I think that this quotation means that the best literature is based upon personal feelings and accomplishments.

b. I agree with this interpretation based upon my experience.

c. I agree with this quotation because I think that the best stories involve dramatic experiences, in which most cases include love, pride, compassion or sacrifice. They make the story more meaningingful and more interesting. When the character does things that we can relate to, or anything heroic it makes the story more interesting because people seem to be drawn to such things. Love, pride, compassion, and sacrifice are the basis of most stories because if they were written about something out they just wouldn’t be as intriguing.

"Courage is grace under fire"
Ernest Hemingway

a. I think that this quotation means that courage is what happens when an action of good favor is done under pressure.

b. I agree with my interpretation based upon my experience.

c. I agree with this quotation because I think it best describes what courage is. It is when someone has good intentions that are shown even though there might be something making the person afraid, or if the circumstances include being forced into doing something else. When a bully tells you to do something, and you want to rebel, you must have courage. It takes courage to fight against something larger than yourself, and the courage you have has good goals. When something is under fire, it is as if it is being brought forth to do something, like combusting. Your graceful actions turn into courage, as the situation builds tension and the need for action become urgent.

“Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have"
-Anonymous

a) I think that this quotation means that in order to be happy you much be able to be satisfied with what you have, instead of getting used to being happy by getting what you want; because sometimes you cant always have what you want.

b) I strongly agree with the interpretation based upon my experience.

c) I agree with this quotation because I feel think that it is important to be happy with what you have. If your always wanting to have something else, you are only going to get angry because you cant always have what you want. Always wanting is not good for you or others, it is unrealistic and impossible to live up to. People live better lives when they are happy and content, oppose to wanting and feeling deprived. Of course, it is ok to want stuff, and feel the need to own things, but there needs to be a limit. There are so many other people out in the world that only dream of having such simple things that most people take for granted; such as TV, spending money, a warm house, or even a family. Sometimes, you just have to slow down and appreciate what you have, and realize that you are fortunate. If you cant be happy with what you have now, what makes you think you will be happy with what you want, when you know that some where along the line there will always be something better that you could have?

“Wise people, even though the laws were abolished, would lead the same life"
- Aristophanes 450-385 BC

a) I think that this quotation means that the wise can be trusted to make the right choices, even if there are no consequences.

b) I do agree with this interpretation based upon my experience

c) I agree with this quotation because I believe that the wise are smart enough to make the right decisions. If they weren’t, chances are they are not that wise. I think that they set their own standards and laws they abide to, whether they be the governments laws or not. I feel that the wise are people to look up to and trust. I do not find that the wise are those who make bad choices for themselves; instead the ones who make smart, civilized, well thought through actions. The wise obtain great discernment and discretion. They are certainly capable of living good, foresighted lives.
